How to Start Writing Your Book (Writing Workshop, virtual)

You have a story. Maybe it’s been living in your head for years, rent-free except for the guilt of “not starting it” yet. Maybe you’ve already started, but you can’t seem to keep going. Maybe you don’t know where to begin. And that’s why you should join us.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to start writing your book.

This 90-minute workshop is where you get to ask me anything about writing a memoir or story that’s so personal, like my divorce. I’ll share what I tried, how the experiments went, how I stumbled, and what I learned writing four drafts of the memoir I wrote about building the international jet-setting life that I always wanted after the marriage society raised me to want, collapsed (sup, patriarchy?).

What we’ll cover:

  • Where to find your starting point (hint: it’s not the beginning)
  • How to build a writing schedule that doesn’t fall apart
  • Finding your voice and style
  • Fitting writing into your actual life
  • Rituals that help you actually sit down and write
  • The “vomit draft” — and why it’s your best friend
  • The difference between your writing brain and your editing brain

You’ll leave with a short list of where you might find your starting point and a different perspective on the writing process.

This is for you if:

You want to write a book about your life, or you’ve already started one and don’t know where it’s going. You’d love it if someone just pulled back the curtain on what the process is like, and gave you an opportunity to ask someone directly.

Take control of your life and shape

the future you always imagined.

Hey there, divorcée,

While I may not have the answers you desperately want, I have been where you’re at right now. I know how overwhelming everything feels right now. I know that you feel so alone and don’t know what to do.

Don’t worry, I got you.

When I was going through my separation and divorce, all I wanted to do was make the world stop moving so I could take a breath and try to believe that everything was going to be OK. (ugh!) That’s why I created this kit; to help you pause for a minute, remember that you are loved, and that you come first.

Included inside is an invitation to join the Dispatched Divorcée community—a membership in the most exclusive club none of us meant to join. Filled with support, resources, and programs to help you move from the hot mess of your divorce to figuring it out and finally arriving in the place that all seasoned divorcées talk about … when it’s finally better.

When you unbox your welcome kit, I hope it feels like you just received a hug from a friend—a friend who has been there and knows that you will get through it, too.

XO, Laura
